WHAT: The National Wildlife Federation, through partnership with the Prairie Rivers Network and the University of Illinois Discovery Partners Institute, is developing a climate vulnerability assessment in the Quad Cities region. This effort will assess environmental factors that could create risks for the Quad Cities, such as how increasing frequent flood events will impact the
region. It will be a tool for communities to identify and pursue greater investments in nature-based projects for community risk reduction, local economies and wildlife.
WHY: The assessment will equip leaders and community members in the Quad Cities with locally relevant information about the area’s future related to the impacts of climate change. The ultimate goal is to develop strategies and recommendations for decision-makers that will strengthen the long-term resilience of the community and its natural assets, such as parks, rivers, and other open spaces. We aim to prioritize helping the most vulnerable communities throughout this process.
WHO: Anyone interested in building and supporing resilience in the Quad Cities – no expertise required! Please join us at one of two sessions where we will share the draft assessment, gather feedback on gaps and next steps, and discuss ideas for implementation. This input will inform the final assessment (due in January 2024).
